Pontius for Linux
Any distro, any shell. Single static binary, zero dependencies, runs on Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch, Alpine, and everything else.
Why terminal email?
The terminal is where AI lives
AI assistants like Claude Code run in the terminal. Pontius puts your email there too — so your AI can handle it for you.
Static binary
Zero dependencies. Single file, runs on any distro. Download, make executable, done.
Secure credentials
Passwords stored via Secret Service (GNOME Keyring, KWallet). Never in plain text files.
Works with any AI
Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Aider — any AI assistant that can run commands works with Pontius.
“Tell your AI to handle email. Get back to what matters.”
Open a terminal, tell your AI to check your inbox, let it handle the routine stuff, and focus on your real work. That's the Pontius workflow.
Getting started
Install on Linux
Snap (Recommended)
$ snap install pontiusAvailable on Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and most major distributions. If you don't have Snap, see the Snap installation guide.
Manual Installation
Download from the latest release:
- x86_64 (most desktops/servers):
pontius_*_linux_amd64.tar.gz - ARM64 (Raspberry Pi 4+, ARM servers):
pontius_*_linux_arm64.tar.gz
# Extract and install
$ tar -xzf pontius_*_linux_*.tar.gz
$ sudo mv pontius /usr/local/bin/Setup
Quick Start
1. Tell your AI to run setup
Pontius is designed to be set up with AI assistance. Open your AI CLI tool (Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Cursor, etc.) and ask it to run:
$ pontius setupThis outputs a comprehensive setup guide that your AI will follow to configure everything.
2. Your AI handles the rest
The AI-assisted setup walks you through license activation, connecting your email accounts, setting up aliases, and initializing your knowledge base. You only need to provide passwords — everything else, your AI handles directly.
3. Start managing email
Once setup is complete, just tell your AI to check your email:
"Let's clear my inbox"Your AI uses Pontius commands behind the scenes. You focus on decisions, not typing.
